Two words that, in the not-so-distant past, would have sent my brain into meltdown and started, as my sister once called it, the little extra heartbeat of anxiety in my throat.
So, earlier this month, in honour of my Living List, I decided to take my fear with me and read a piece of prose to an adult audience at the Short and Sweet: Short Fiction Salon in the Library of Birmingham. The theme was ‘The sea’ and I put myself forward a couple of months ago before I could talk myself out of it!
Unfortunately there’s no video evidence this time but I can report that it was terrifying, liberating and exhilarating all at the same time… And most importantly, I survived and actually enjoyed it!
For now, I’ll leave you with one of my favourites by Elizabeth Gilbert, “Your fear is the most boring thing about you!” Click here to see her explain.
What fear, big or small, have you conquered recently? Let me know below and thanks for reading!
